Image: Sarah Robinson, UGA Statistics BS '17, was recently awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (https://www.nsfgrfp.org/general_resources/about). This is one of the most competitive graduate fellowships with over 12,000 applications and only 2,000 awards. Out of the 2,000 awards, only six were given in Robinson's field of biostatistics. The fellowship provides a stipend for three years of graduate study along with a cost of education allowance paid to the institution. Robinson is a second-year PhD student in the Department of Statistics at Rice University. She works with Dr. Christine Peterson at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to develop methods to model and infer the interactions of microbes in cancer patients over time.
