Image: Dr. Mickey Dunlap recently received the Award of Excellence for Teaching presented by the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Tifton Campus. Congratulations, Dr. Dunlap! This semester, we have 120 graduate students on the Tifton campus. One of the biggest frustrations our graduate students encountered in the past is that they were required to spend a semester on the Athens campus just to take a statistics course. As you can imagine, this was not only a significant financial burden for the students, but frequently resulted in extending their program of study by a semester. Dr. Dunlap volunteered to teach STAT 6315 – Statistical Methods for Researchers to the Tifton and Griffin campuses using Zoom with the support of our Tifton campus research statistician, Ms. Lin Luo. In the four years that Dr. Dunlap has taught the course, the Tifton section has been fully enrolled. During some semesters, the local demand is so high that he moves seats from his Griffin section to the Tifton section. For Spring 2022, for example, there were 18 students in the Tifton section. Dr. Dunlap has provided, and continues to provide, an extremely valuable service coupled with outstanding teaching to our extended campuses. Because of Dr. Dunlap, many of our M.S. students and even some of our Ph.D. students can now complete their entire program of study on the Tifton campus. Dr. Mickey Dunlap is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Statistics and is located on the university’s Athens campus. Dr. Dunlap received his PhD. in statistics from Texas A&M in 2004. He has been at UGA since 2017. Type of News/Audience: Departmental
